29.3.14:
ESTON NAB
RETURNED TO THE PEOPLE

PROCLAMATION:

"So hear ye!
After the best part of a thousand years, if not more, since this land was taken from the people, we now officially return Eston Nab to the people, in full and for all time; for all people to walk freely upon it and enjoy it and we hope actively conserve and protect it. It must never again become private property. For this land is public land. For everyone. Forever."

FOEH 29.3.14

On 29th March 2014, after the best part of a thousand years if not more, the FOEH officially returned Eston Nab to the people. The ceremonial gathering of around 100 heard Craig Hornby read a proclamation (above). Guests of honour were Daphne Haverson, daughter of the late Charlie Burdett who used to live in the Beacon as a boy in the 1920s. Plus his great great grandchildren Ellie and Jay Halliday. Before the eyes of the press, they cut a thick red ribbon wrapped around The Beacon Monument. Great cheer and the popping of corks followed. After the raising of glasses, Craig gave a guided tour of the site and explained its bronze age, iron age and Napoleonic history. This was then followed by a trip down to Pit-Top, Barnaby Moor.

Thanks to all who came and made it a brilliant day!
Thanks to Ian Forsyth, Jan Lindberg & others for photographs.
FOEH founders - Glynis Mahon, Craig Hornby, Rita Richardson, Lyn Hewling
